Drinking Russian Caravan tea!

We like to think we're a litttle bit Russian.

simple things...

Doesn't making the bed make everything better. You know those things that you have to do every day, but don't really have to? Like eating a specific cereal each morning or making sure something is parallel to something else before you can fully feel everything is ok. Well, for us it's making the bed. We feel approximately seventeen and a half times better post making the bed than we do pre making it. It hasn't reached obsessive yet, but unlike smoking, is more harmlessly habitual.

We feel similarly happier after smelling the tea bag tin before our first cup of tea of the day and neatening any rectangles into piles (mainly paper and magazines). These are our action equivalent of a safety/comfort blanket. If we leave the house without doing any of these things, a grey cloud of doom follows us around all day until we can get back to rectify the situation. On saying this out loud we feel compelled to perhaps reduce the importance of these minor tasks somewhat. However, we are now living a long way from home, so comfort blankets are pretty much a necessity.

Wow, that's the first time we have spelt parallel (there was the second) right first time! Usually the obnoxious (yet helpful) red dotted line appears and we have to spell check. And on that note we are off to errrm, spell check.

(No smokers were judged in this blog, we will never judge, only encourage you to eat).

love her...

We are loving Sophie Dahl and her cooking at the moment. Check her out here...http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00s1vc8#related-links She cooks according to moods and feelings. The main feeling we have when cooking is hunger, but maybe there's more to it? Anyway, her food, kitchen, outfits and thoughts are all pretty magical.

slam dunk...

February 21, 2010 02:55 by fay

Do you ever catch yourself thinking about something and then think maybe we've been pondering over that a little too long? We do it far too often. The very fact we're writing about it means it's had a worrying amount of time spent on it. You're probably thinking what it was playing on our minds earlier in the day. Well, here goes...rectangular or round biscuits - which is better for dunking in your tea then eating?

If decided, this answer will not change the world in any way, but meaningless daydreams and thoughts are our forte. So there. Back to it. We have decided on the following (feel free to copy and paste for future reference): Rectangular biscuits are much easier to dunk as they fit in as far as you want them to, then biting them or popping them in your mouth is a straight forward task. The round biscuit however is a totally different ball game (we're talking big round biscuits here, smaller round biscuits to the back of the queue please). If you do manage to fully dunk your circular treat, then it is much more of a challenge to get it all in your mouth. There is much more of a risk of biscuit breakage and it falling into your tea to be forever lost. Therefore, we have concluded that the bigger the challenge, the more satisfying the treat.

Round biscuits win. Hooray for them! We will endeavour to post much more meaningful musings in future.

lovely bones...

January 4, 2010 03:27 by fay

Firstly, happy new year! Hope it was firework filled and there were no disappointing anti-climaxes. We are still yawning from ours, therefore it must have been a super duper start to the year. Same resolution as every year...enjoy more and worry less. Surely 2010 is the year to do this whole-heartedly. We shall see, we're not too worried about it to be honest.

Anyways, we have a new blog for you to take a peek at... http://thisisskeleton.blogspot.com. It has what we love in a blog - bits of pondering, dissecting and a wonderful way with words. So kids, check it out!

And if your new years resolution is to lose weight, please re-think. There's more of you to love.

there are worse addictions...

November 26, 2009 07:26 by fay
Okay, we love cups of tea with cake. Infact we adore them. We are an official member of the tea appreciation society (http://www.teaappreciationsociety.org/tea.asp?page=home). However of late, our tea intake has decreased a little and our coffee cravings have increased - in particular lattes. Especially the very unhealthy full fat milk versions (we have been asked if we would like a "skinny soy milk latte" before! for the record we would most certainly not! there is no such thing as a soy cow). Anywho, we've started teaming our coffees up with our portions of cake. This probably means absolutely nothing at all other than a caffiene addiction. However, we do feeel slightly guilty about it, why? We haven't the foggiest. We are still a dedicated tea lover, we've just taken on more coffee. Why are we even explaining ourselves?! It must be the caffiene twitch we've developed. We feel a little better for sharing. Tea and cake is fantabulous whereas coffee and cake is just enjoyable. Here is some of the latter...

By the way, the cake is coconut. Yummmmmm.

love sandwich...

September 24, 2009 13:10 by fay
Homes are places filled with the people and things you love. We've felt at home since we've been in Australia and we cannot stop smiling - happy times. We also had a cheese and crisp sandwich today, it was made for us too...jeez it's been a great day. We advise making a loved one their favourite sandwich, it will make their day.

rustle and crunch...

September 23, 2009 08:19 by fay
We bought our first Australian book today. The bookshop people wrapped it up  a brown paper bag so it was like a chunky envelope. We walked down the street listening to the brown paper rustle and crunch. It was great.

let the sun shine in...

July 13, 2009 14:38 by fay
Curtains. More decorative or more functional? During a long breakfast of tea, toast and marmite we had time to stare at a pair of closed curtains. (Repeating this information back to ourselves is causing us to worry about our morning activities somewhat). Anyhow, the fabric was chintz at it's most glorious and complimented the overall colour scheme of the room impressively. However, they also kept the morning sun out of our squinty pre-tea eyes which was much appreciated. So, we can't decide which the curtains provide more of. It actually really doesn't matter, we are thinking out loud again which we have been warned about. And on that note we shall say cheerio for now...

bless you...

A...a...a...a...a...aaaaa...aaaaaaaaaaaa...TISHOO! One of the best feelings of relief we think. (We didn't forget to catch it or bin it, but how do you really know if you killed it? We decided not to check).

disaster...

June 9, 2009 14:35 by fay
We've put the tea bag in the cup, boiled the kettle, poured the water into the cup, opened the fridge...and there's no milk! Gasping.

hip hip hip...

It's here, it's summer. Freckles, the sound of the wonderful ice-cream van and paddling pools in gardens have all arrived. Hooray!

strop...

May 20, 2009 18:23 by fay

We don't stride or power walk or run. We like to stroll, walk slow and sometimes dawdle. Get over it. If you're in a rush, then bloody well overtake us! Jeeeez! Was there really any need for a massive huff, a sigh or a shove?! We think not. Calm down. You see that space next to us on the pavement? Well. take a step towards it and walk past. We won't bite you or push you into the road, however, blatant acts of appaulling manners may result in the previously mentioned.

Yes...we may have got out of the wrong side of bed this morning.

the cheek of it...

March 18, 2009 22:50 by fay

Sometimes, even though it's wrong, it's fun to be naughty. Or cheeky. Or mischievous. As long as no real harm comes to anyone and nobody gets put in jail, go and feel the good kind of guilt. The kind where you keep giggling until your stomach hurts and you almost want to get told off. Please don't tell us off though. We promise to be good next blog! Yes, yes...we've learnt our lesson.

just bloomin' well have it...

March 15, 2009 20:45 by fay
If a little of what you fancy does you good, then does a big chunk of what you fancy do you extra good? It tends to make us extra chubby, but also extra smiley which is no bad thing. There's also more of us to love. So if you're worrying about another slice of lemon drizzle cake or an extra scoop of ice cream, then stop worrying and just bloody have it! If you're pondering it you obviously want it. Go on, you know you want it. If it gets to the stage where you're not allowed on rollercoasters, or have to buy two seats on the plane, then maybe a moment to re-consider is understandable. But we do not want to judge, just encourage. Nourish your senses and indulge.

fireworks...

March 13, 2009 12:17 by fay
Some people are like fireworks. They explode into your life, creating beautiful, entertaining displays. They make you excitedly smile and gasp. They light up your universe in the most colourful of ways and you come away from them glowing. Always a little sad to leave them, as the show is over, you know the next instalment will be just as wonderful if not more so than the last. And you love them because they are a special occassion. How lucky we are to have these fireworks in our lives.

yes we're back...tell a friend...

March 8, 2009 18:59 by fay
Sorry it's been soooooo long! We got lost in a giant black forest gateau and have been eating our way out for weeks. Feeling a little bloated, we won't be going near chocolate or cherries for a while. Anywho, how are y'all? How's the family? We've heard the weather's been a bit ropey, maybe it's a good thing we were stuck in a cake so long. We're feeling quite free though now. Like when you take your socks off, or your swimming goggles, or you know when you wake up and stretch? Like that. We will be writing soon...in a while pretty smile.

two minutes of wonderful...

January 28, 2009 23:30 by fay

Don't you love those moments we have just to ourselves? Where it's impossible to do anything work or stress related, and everything-else can be blocked out. Like train journeys. Where all you have is a jam sandwich to enjoy or your ipod to listen to. You've forgotten your work, so you cant do anything other than exactly what you really want to do and not what you should or need to do. Why? Because you're on a train remember! Or smaller moments. Like today, at the hand dryer. We had washed our hands, and were at the hand dryer, drying our hands, thinking this is wonderful! There's nothing else we can do now but dry our hands, so for approximately two minutes we could daydream to ourselves, guilt free. I think it's what benches were made for...but more of that another time.

It's important to have these totally self-indulgent, guilt-free moments. Whatever or wherever they are, you can be you. Think, say, write, read, eat, do whatever you please. Even if it's only briefly whilst drying your hands. We thought about what to eat for our dinner and to remember to re-tell you all these thoughts (we had tomato and basil soup and toast followed by two fondant fancies by the way).

gotta love 'em!

lets get-together...

January 19, 2009 23:07 by fay

We love it when we find things that we think have been made for one-another, like today when we had a coconut and raspberry cake square. We've had one before, but today sat and thought, god, this is goooood. Cheese and marmite, cold feet and microwaved socks, crumbles and custard, cheeky smiles and winks, pencil crayons, paper and long afternoons, faces and loving kisses...you get the jist. This list is endless! We also love lists, if somebody says make a list of, well, whatever really, we get a bit fidgety with excitment. We were made for list making. Well, simple things and all that.

excitabilly...

Excitement is great is it not? Teeth grittingly, cheek achingly, arm snappingly, foot tappingly exciting! When your stomach is having a party and your knees keep bending. Wonderfulness no? We love excitement. Love it.

"I like conversations that last for hours and hours, full of jokes about singing bees and talking flowers. I like it when they take up whole mornings and fill up whole nights. When they mention books and cocktails and trumpets and kites. I like them when they talk about parties and talk about dreams, and talk about cakes covered in cream. And all that they need is me and a friend, and the talking to go on and never to end."

Bonjour readers! We are back from beautiful Switzerland, however we brought home more than chocolate...unfortunately we managed to pick up a nasty cold. We are feeling quite sorry for ourselves at the moment - sad faces all round I'm afraid. Everything is a little bit fuzzy and soft, probably due to the cocktail of cold remedies and painkillers, we've got to the point where we're just mixing whatever we have and cramming it all in (don't try this at home kids!). Drifting in and out of sleep so more blogs will be on the way when zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....

toodle pip...

September 22, 2008 17:06 by fay
Right readers, we are off on a little adventure, over to Switzerland to be exact! Activities are to include balloon hunting, chocolate buying, cake eating and general pottering/relaxing! We will be gone for a week or so, but will be back soon enough fully ready to witter at you again! We are always on the look out for obscure postcards - another little love of ours, so we might send you one. Or better yet - you send us any you find! Au revoir! XXX

fools rush in...

September 1, 2008 23:40 by fay

More apologies folks for lack of wittering! It's been one of those weeks where you think it's going to be a quiet one watching T.V. that rots the mind...but then wonderful presents arrive in the shape of people, places and parties! When we have settled down to watch something however, it's been Marie Antoinette...about 8 times in the past few weeks. We cannot stop watching it for a little escapism and the excellent soundtrack. After discovering Bow wow wow and their versions of "fools rush in" and "I want candy", we have an extra spring in our step and wiggle in our dance! It's a late discovery, but we love it! All the cakes, fabric and shoes of Versailles have pocketed themselves in our brain. We are humming the soundtrack as we write. If you haven't seen it, we are giving you a strong recommendation. Anywho, you get the idea.

There have been rumours of more balloon sightings but no pics, so no proof! We did get a note from one pursuing it's journey to fame. It's going to audition for BB10 and Shipwrecked 2009...watch this balloon filled space!

it's been a while...

August 27, 2008 15:15 by fay
Greetings beloved readers! We have been busying ourselves with watering hanging baskets, eating jam on toast and generally pottering about for a while. We are aching for a trip to the seaside...and soon! No recent balloon sightings to report. We are trying to get back in the swing of things...so more blogs on the way. We've missed you! X

decisions, decisions...

August 4, 2008 21:22 by fay
What's with the weather guys?! We don't mind a little rain, but what we cannot abide is weather schizophrenia. Sunshine, rain, bleakness, sun, drizzle...you get the idea. Sunglasses or umbrella (ella ella)? Looks like it's both - just incase. There is something lovely about when the rain stops and we put the brolly away and the shades on though. Suppose we just live for the drama!

July 14, 2008 23:13 by fay

So this is our first blog! How very exciting. faylovescake.com is in the process (the long, arduous process) of getting up and running , but we thought we’d get the blog going so you can get to know us. We’re thoughtful like that. fay-loves-cake is an ever expanding team of lovely people - both illustrated and the fleshy kind. You’ll get blog posts from all of us, some more than others (there’s a couple of shy ones). It's just to let you all know what we're up to, thinking and sometimes just bits we've seen and fancy wittering about. All comments, opinions and ideas are very welcome. So hey ho, lets go!
