We are loving Sophie Dahl and her cooking at the moment. Check her out here...http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00s1vc8#related-links She cooks according to moods and feelings. The main feeling we have when cooking is hunger, but maybe there's more to it? Anyway, her food, kitchen, outfits and thoughts are all pretty magical.

Happy Easter kids! We met the easter bunny, or should we say bunnies, today. There is more than one you know, and they're all normal sized bundles of fluff. Of course there's the main guy, chief bunny. He chooses who gets what chocolate, and sometimes sets up the odd easter egg hunt - purely for his own satisfaction as nobody ever finds all the hidden chocolate. No. Nobody! Not even that time you thought you did, and your mom or nan or whoever said you did...you actually didn't.

We asked one of these delightful little hopping pom poms what happens to all the chocolate that doesn't get found? He said, the eggs go to Santa, he's busy getting ready for Christmas already, so him and the elves need a pick me up. He gets a pretty big basket full of chocolate eggs every Easter Monday. All the little bunny and chick shaped chocolate go to the Tooth Fairy and her other employed fairies. Obviously they're not as worried about they're own teeth falling out as they are everyone-elses.

So, with that we let him hop off. We were left feeling happy in the fact that no chocolate is wasted as bunnies not only hand it all out, but collect it back in again if you can't find it. And you never find it all.

No. Honestly. You really don't. Now go and eat the stuff you did find.

lovely cup of chintz...

March 31, 2010 07:23 by fay

Ever felt like you're physically consuming a description? We did. We went off for afternoon tea at The Tea Room in the Queen Victoria Building, Sydney. The china was chintztastic (sorry mom - we're making words up again) and made our tea taste of Victorian times (yes really!). The baked delights were heavenly also but we'll tell you about them another time. For now, please enjoy our imagery of drinkable history.

we're alive....

It's been too long again sweet peas. We are so sorry. Another adventure went awry. This time it involved hiking over what we thought was a jam centred donut, only to find out (the hard way) that it was in fact one with a large hole in the middle. After plummeting down into the dark circle (and severely grazing ourselves on giant granules of sugar - ouch!), we have spent rather a long while eating our way through the bottom of the damn thing. We are not even a massive donut fan, so enjoyable this was not.

Apologies to donut lovers, no offence was intended from this post. It's just, well you know, we spent too long with one and had a bad experience. Kind of like if you get stung by a bumble bee or bitten by a gerbil you go right off them for a while. We'll get over it, we promise.

Anyway, we have obviously survived and are here to grumble about what happened. On a more pleasant note, we have a new desk to work on. This pleases us greatly and makes up for weeks escaping a deep fried, sugar-coated ring of unhealthiness. We are feeling very positive and are ready with brightly coloured pencil crayons to create tiny bits of magic for others. So with that, we shall give you a squeeze, ruffle your hair and kiss you on the cheek. Until next time beauties.

slam dunk...

February 21, 2010 02:55 by fay

Do you ever catch yourself thinking about something and then think maybe we've been pondering over that a little too long? We do it far too often. The very fact we're writing about it means it's had a worrying amount of time spent on it. You're probably thinking what it was playing on our minds earlier in the day. Well, here goes...rectangular or round biscuits - which is better for dunking in your tea then eating?

If decided, this answer will not change the world in any way, but meaningless daydreams and thoughts are our forte. So there. Back to it. We have decided on the following (feel free to copy and paste for future reference): Rectangular biscuits are much easier to dunk as they fit in as far as you want them to, then biting them or popping them in your mouth is a straight forward task. The round biscuit however is a totally different ball game (we're talking big round biscuits here, smaller round biscuits to the back of the queue please). If you do manage to fully dunk your circular treat, then it is much more of a challenge to get it all in your mouth. There is much more of a risk of biscuit breakage and it falling into your tea to be forever lost. Therefore, we have concluded that the bigger the challenge, the more satisfying the treat.

Round biscuits win. Hooray for them! We will endeavour to post much more meaningful musings in future.

FFFFFFrench fancy?! A giant pink fondant fancy fell on us. Stuff like this can happen in January. It squashes you a little, there's slight suffocation and your inspiration is muffled and well, un-inspirational. As we have been eating our way out until now, we have not been able to blog and there's much more of us to love.

Anyways, we are now back. We have cancelled out all the cake with a trusty apple (yes. It does work) and we will be here wittering to you until you're praying for a larger, heavier cake to fall from the skies in our direction. We do hope your year is going to plan, people are obviously not eating enough cake as the bakery gods are literally chucking stuff out the sky. Giant stuff.

there are worse addictions...

Okay, we love cups of tea with cake. Infact we adore them. We are an official member of the tea appreciation society (http://www.teaappreciationsociety.org/tea.asp?page=home). However of late, our tea intake has decreased a little and our coffee cravings have increased - in particular lattes. Especially the very unhealthy full fat milk versions (we have been asked if we would like a "skinny soy milk latte" before! for the record we would most certainly not! there is no such thing as a soy cow). Anywho, we've started teaming our coffees up with our portions of cake. This probably means absolutely nothing at all other than a caffiene addiction. However, we do feeel slightly guilty about it, why? We haven't the foggiest. We are still a dedicated tea lover, we've just taken on more coffee. Why are we even explaining ourselves?! It must be the caffiene twitch we've developed. We feel a little better for sharing. Tea and cake is fantabulous whereas coffee and cake is just enjoyable. Here is some of the latter...

By the way, the cake is coconut. Yummmmmm.

But, we reckon we've managed it! This deliciously large slice of lemon cheesecake surely counts towards our 5-a-day fruit and veg intake doesn't it? Along with the strawberries, we think our 5-a-day is pretty much covered. Perhaps the ice-cream cancels a portion out...oh well, nearly there!

Homes are places filled with the people and things you love. We've felt at home since we've been in Australia and we cannot stop smiling - happy times. We also had a cheese and crisp sandwich today, it was made for us too...jeez it's been a great day. We advise making a loved one their favourite sandwich, it will make their day.

G'day mates! It's been forever we know. This is due to a re-location situation, how limb-snappingly exciting! We are now based in Sydney, where the sun shines more often and there is plenty of everything to witter about. Oh, how we've missed wittering to you. We shall start with an edible image, cake is big over here - brilliant. These delights are a selection from the cheesecake shop. Yuh hum...

joyful jars...

August 20, 2009 23:07 by fay

We love our Mom. Especially when she takes us out for lunch. Check out the mini jars of sauce we received with our meals! We love jars (simple things...). Ours was the burger. bloody scrumptious! Only thing was, there was no room left for puddings until a good 45 minutes after - but we had already left the restaurant so yes, we had a little sulk. And Mom refused to let us permanently borrow one of the little jars. Moms are always right. Hmph.

Mom's crab apple jelly and the crab apple tree which creates the crab apples

that make it! Phew...bit of a crab apple overdose, but we like saying it.

However, we enjoy eating it much more, we have it on warm,

buttered toast, mmmmm.

March 15, 2009 20:45 by fay
If a little of what you fancy does you good, then does a big chunk of what you fancy do you extra good? It tends to make us extra chubby, but also extra smiley which is no bad thing. There's also more of us to love. So if you're worrying about another slice of lemon drizzle cake or an extra scoop of ice cream, then stop worrying and just bloody have it! If you're pondering it you obviously want it. Go on, you know you want it. If it gets to the stage where you're not allowed on rollercoasters, or have to buy two seats on the plane, then maybe a moment to re-consider is understandable. But we do not want to judge, just encourage. Nourish your senses and indulge.

We were given some of these delights a couple of weeks ago and meant to tell you sooner. But seriously, kids, eat these! You get a beautiful box filled with something so pretty, that for a second you question whether or not to devour them! But they're so delicious looking that you find yourself biting and smiling at the same time. Our eyes were enchanted, our taste-buds were elated and our stomach overjoyed. Thank you i love cake. lets get-together...

January 19, 2009 23:07 by fay

We love it when we find things that we think have been made for one-another, like today when we had a coconut and raspberry cake square. We've had one before, but today sat and thought, god, this is goooood. Cheese and marmite, cold feet and microwaved socks, crumbles and custard, cheeky smiles and winks, pencil crayons, paper and long afternoons, faces and loving kisses...you get the jist. This list is endless! We also love lists, if somebody says make a list of, well, whatever really, we get a bit fidgety with excitment. We were made for list making. Well, simple things and all that.

Ok. So a cup of tea was made. There were no biscuits in the tin. No cake. And the  peckishness was overwhelming! There it was...the advent calender. Each pocket filled with a different soft centred chocolate. Each one peeking out, basically saying "eat me! pleeease, just eat my chocolatey lovliness!"

And so it happened. And the pockets are empty. And the guilt is bothering us...a lot. Was it worth it?

Yes.

So, canapes. Selfishly sized portions of what would otherwise be a perfectly delicious meal, or miniture mouth-sized wonders that get you excited about a shindig? We must admit, normal everyday things made miniture has always got us a little giddy. So, edible minitures? Yes please! That was a quick descision on our part wasn't it? clotted cream and gladiators...

November 11, 2008 21:47 by fay

Hello, it's been a little while hasn't it? So what have you been up to? Tried any new cakes of late? We've discovered a new tea and cake place nestled in Nottingham called The Walk. It offers a range of afternoon teas with miniture and full sized cakes/scones and sandwiches included. And guess what? Go on guess...no? OK. They serve cream of the clotted variety with their scones along with locally sourced jams - including rose petal jam, divine. All the little round tables and beautiful chairs are different, and there's an eclectic mix of tea cups, tea pots and cake stands served by pretty girls with red lipstick and bows in their hair. We ended up wondering if infact we were daydreaming as this is very often a scene we picture. There is also the option of a champagne afternoon tea which we will be indulging in tomorrow as it is a bit of a special day. We will be taking photos, so further wittering about our new favourite place is to be expected.

We would also love to thank all those involved in a wonderful weekend of celebrations last weekend. We danced and laughed and had a very jolly couple of days. We were told if we were a gladiator (one of the ones off the T.V. not of the Russell Crowe variety), we would be named the Tickler, due to our non-violent but surprise tickle attacks. The more we think about this name, the more we wonder if it sounds cute or infact quite creepy. Hmmmm. Anywho, when arriving home we got quite upset that it was all over and we had picked up a cold on the train. Hankies all round. Then we remembered something mom had told us....don't be sad that it's ended, be happy that it happened! How true. Just wish it could have kept going a little bit longer!

So, keep smiling, eating cake and spending time with those who make your cheeks (on your face) ache from laughter! XXX

This blog is dedicated to D.P. - an unexpected fan of our blogging (he's not dead by the way...it's just a thank you for reading sort of thing).

After popping into the newly opened Coffee Republic in Nottingham, we were absolutely delighted. Their fruity smoothies and chocolatey milkshakes tickled our fancy, however, the lovely use of hearts (a favourite shape at fay-loves-cake) and ribbons with their packaging made us do a little dance of appreciation. They have even gone so far as to use a heart shape and their initials to create their all butter shortbread biscuits - we couldn't resist! Smiles all round...
