slam dunk...

February 21, 2010 02:55 by fay

Do you ever catch yourself thinking about something and then think maybe we've been pondering over that a little too long? We do it far too often. The very fact we're writing about it means it's had a worrying amount of time spent on it. You're probably thinking what it was playing on our minds earlier in the day. Well, here goes...rectangular or round biscuits - which is better for dunking in your tea then eating?

If decided, this answer will not change the world in any way, but meaningless daydreams and thoughts are our forte. So there. Back to it. We have decided on the following (feel free to copy and paste for future reference): Rectangular biscuits are much easier to dunk as they fit in as far as you want them to, then biting them or popping them in your mouth is a straight forward task. The round biscuit however is a totally different ball game (we're talking big round biscuits here, smaller round biscuits to the back of the queue please). If you do manage to fully dunk your circular treat, then it is much more of a challenge to get it all in your mouth. There is much more of a risk of biscuit breakage and it falling into your tea to be forever lost. Therefore, we have concluded that the bigger the challenge, the more satisfying the treat.

Round biscuits win. Hooray for them! We will endeavour to post much more meaningful musings in future.

Ok, so it's not actually a bargain as such but an investment, and aren't investments a type of bargain? No? Oh. Well it's beautiful and we want it. Alot...

January 28, 2010 07:23 by fay

FFFFFFrench fancy?! A giant pink fondant fancy fell on us. Stuff like this can happen in January. It squashes you a little, there's slight suffocation and your inspiration is muffled and well, un-inspirational. As we have been eating our way out until now, we have not been able to blog and there's much more of us to love.

Anyways, we are now back. We have cancelled out all the cake with a trusty apple (yes. It does work) and we will be here wittering to you until you're praying for a larger, heavier cake to fall from the skies in our direction. We do hope your year is going to plan, people are obviously not eating enough cake as the bakery gods are literally chucking stuff out the sky. Giant stuff.

January 4, 2010 03:27 by fay

Firstly, happy new year! Hope it was firework filled and there were no disappointing anti-climaxes. We are still yawning from ours, therefore it must have been a super duper start to the year. Same resolution as every year...enjoy more and worry less. Surely 2010 is the year to do this whole-heartedly. We shall see, we're not too worried about it to be honest.

Anyways, we have a new blog for you to take a peek at... http://thisisskeleton.blogspot.com. It has what we love in a blog - bits of pondering, dissecting and a wonderful way with words. So kids, check it out!

And if your new years resolution is to lose weight, please re-think. There's more of you to love.

there are worse addictions...

November 26, 2009 07:26 by fay
Okay, we love cups of tea with cake. Infact we adore them. We are an official member of the tea appreciation society (http://www.teaappreciationsociety.org/tea.asp?page=home). However of late, our tea intake has decreased a little and our coffee cravings have increased - in particular lattes. Especially the very unhealthy full fat milk versions (we have been asked if we would like a "skinny soy milk latte" before! for the record we would most certainly not! there is no such thing as a soy cow). Anywho, we've started teaming our coffees up with our portions of cake. This probably means absolutely nothing at all other than a caffiene addiction. However, we do feeel slightly guilty about it, why? We haven't the foggiest. We are still a dedicated tea lover, we've just taken on more coffee. Why are we even explaining ourselves?! It must be the caffiene twitch we've developed. We feel a little better for sharing. Tea and cake is fantabulous whereas coffee and cake is just enjoyable. Here is some of the latter...

By the way, the cake is coconut. Yummmmmm.

But, we reckon we've managed it! This deliciously large slice of lemon cheesecake surely counts towards our 5-a-day fruit and veg intake doesn't it? Along with the strawberries, we think our 5-a-day is pretty much covered. Perhaps the ice-cream cancels a portion out...oh well, nearly there!

Ever get news that makes you beam with happiness? We did today. Down to somebody's hard work, we are inflated with congratulations for them and so very proud. Homes are places filled with the people and things you love. We've felt at home since we've been in Australia and we cannot stop smiling - happy times. We also had a cheese and crisp sandwich today, it was made for us too...jeez it's been a great day. We advise making a loved one their favourite sandwich, it will make their day.

We bought our first Australian book today. The bookshop people wrapped it up  a brown paper bag so it was like a chunky envelope. We walked down the street listening to the brown paper rustle and crunch. It was great.

G'day mates! It's been forever we know. This is due to a re-location situation, how limb-snappingly exciting! We are now based in Sydney, where the sun shines more often and there is plenty of everything to witter about. Oh, how we've missed wittering to you. We shall start with an edible image, cake is big over here - brilliant. These delights are a selection from the cheesecake shop. Yuh hum...

We love our Mom. Especially when she takes us out for lunch. Check out the mini jars of sauce we received with our meals! We love jars (simple things...). Ours was the burger. bloody scrumptious! Only thing was, there was no room left for puddings until a good 45 minutes after - but we had already left the restaurant so yes, we had a little sulk. And Mom refused to let us permanently borrow one of the little jars. Moms are always right. Hmph.

July 13, 2009 14:38 by fay
Curtains. More decorative or more functional? During a long breakfast of tea, toast and marmite we had time to stare at a pair of closed curtains. (Repeating this information back to ourselves is causing us to worry about our morning activities somewhat). Anyhow, the fabric was chintz at it's most glorious and complimented the overall colour scheme of the room impressively. However, they also kept the morning sun out of our squinty pre-tea eyes which was much appreciated. So, we can't decide which the curtains provide more of. It actually really doesn't matter, we are thinking out loud again which we have been warned about. And on that note we shall say cheerio for now...

Was there really any need for a massive huff, a sigh or a shove?! We think not. Calm down. You see that space next to us on the pavement? Well. take a step towards it and walk past. We won't bite you or push you into the road, however, blatant acts of appaulling manners may result in the previously mentioned.

Yes...we may have got out of the wrong side of bed this morning.

team work...

May 6, 2009 21:09 by fay

Aren't sequins wonderful? Making something quite plain into something that razzle dazzles. We were wondering today how the individual sequins must feel. They can never take all the credit for their sparkly shows, but always have to take it as a team - a beautiful, reflective family. We dont think we could sew just one sequin and leave it there alone. Not when we are fully aware of the potential giddiness and glee a gang of sequins has on us.

Maybe it's all they know, therefore they go through life happily sharing the praise together. However, maybe sometimes, they cry out to catch the light on their own. Who knows? Not us, hence the pondering. We did think though, if there is a missing sequin on a garment that should be covered in them, you can spot the dull patch almost immediately. Therefore, it shows how each individual one is extremely important and should be appreciated. So, next time your alone with something so twinkly and pretty due to it's abundance of sequins that you feel you have to profess your utter love/lust for it (is it just us that does this to things we really really like and or want?), why not mention how each one is individually very impressive. You know, just incase there is that one trying to loosen the thread to be on it's own.

This really hasn't meant to be a metaphor for people by the way. After reading it back it may come across that way but we hope it doesn't. For the record, we think some people are much better off away from others - the ones that don't deserve gleeful, sequin moments in their life. Are we being a little mean? Probably...sorry Mom! x

cream-tea mishap...

May 4, 2009 19:42 by fay

Goodness, it's been a while! Well, after an adventure where we were mountaineering huge scones, wading through some clotted cream and trudging through some raspberry jam, we got poorly. It was nothing to do with piggies or flu, however we had been feeling rather sorry for ourselves and were un-able to write due to our mood resembling a dreary day. On Saturday however, our mood was lifted to a sunny day (a disney one - you know, where the woodland creatures sing along with your humming and little birds tie bows in your hair). We received some beautiful cupcakes, delivered to us by cupcakes and peonies. Delightful, delectable and deeeeeelicious! Iced with "GET WELL SOON", each yummy little sponge had a little edible flower, almost too pretty to eat ("almost" we said!). A big thank you to cupcakes and peonies for cheering us right up and helping with our recovery and a huge recommendation to all you readers. Why not treat yourself or somebody-else? http://www.cupcakespeonies.blogspot.com/ We are living proof that these treats each contain a bit of magic suitable for any occasion.

When you open your eyes, really open them. Take everything in, sketch it, photograph it, talk about it, memorise it. It's your view, totally unique to your peepers. Appreciate those shapes, colours, movement, letters...

Take in those you love. Their mannerisms, cheek colour, how they look at you. And if you enjoy a view, go back and look at it again and again and again...x

sob...

April 7, 2009 14:32 by fay

Sometimes you have to give in to that lump in your throat or quiver in your lip and let the tears cascade down your face. It might be embarrassing or even inappropriate, but the relief will make up for it. There is obviously a reason behind you soaking a tissue or a handy shoulder, so just let it happen. It can be very freeing to just cry. It will be the start of you feeling a little better about whatever is making you cry in the first place. Honestly.

And if a loved one or friend is there to share the emotion or just help soak up your tear-drops then all the better. If you're as lucky as us, you'll get a cup of tea and a biscuit too. There, that's better isn't it? Isn't that feeling you get when you can breathe through your nose again and your face is less swollen wonderful? We think so. So maybe next time you're telling yourself not to cry, don't listen.

Sometimes, even though it's wrong, it's fun to be naughty. Or cheeky. Or mischievous. As long as no real harm comes to anyone and nobody gets put in jail, go and feel the good kind of guilt. The kind where you keep giggling until your stomach hurts and you almost want to get told off. Please don't tell us off though. We promise to be good next blog! Yes, yes...we've learnt our lesson.

If a little of what you fancy does you good, then does a big chunk of what you fancy do you extra good? It tends to make us extra chubby, but also extra smiley which is no bad thing. There's also more of us to love. So if you're worrying about another slice of lemon drizzle cake or an extra scoop of ice cream, then stop worrying and just bloody have it! If you're pondering it you obviously want it. Go on, you know you want it. If it gets to the stage where you're not allowed on rollercoasters, or have to buy two seats on the plane, then maybe a moment to re-consider is understandable. But we do not want to judge, just encourage. Nourish your senses and indulge.

Some people are like fireworks. They explode into your life, creating beautiful, entertaining displays. They make you excitedly smile and gasp. They light up your universe in the most colourful of ways and you come away from them glowing. Always a little sad to leave them, as the show is over, you know the next instalment will be just as wonderful if not more so than the last. And you love them because they are a special occassion. How lucky we are to have these fireworks in our lives.

Sorry it's been soooooo long! We got lost in a giant black forest gateau and have been eating our way out for weeks. Feeling a little bloated, we won't be going near chocolate or cherries for a while. Anywho, how are y'all? How's the family? We've heard the weather's been a bit ropey, maybe it's a good thing we were stuck in a cake so long. We're feeling quite free though now. Like when you take your socks off, or your swimming goggles, or you know when you wake up and stretch? Like that. We will be writing soon...in a while pretty smile.

two minutes of wonderful...

January 28, 2009 23:30 by fay

Don't you love those moments we have just to ourselves? Where it's impossible to do anything work or stress related, and everything-else can be blocked out. Like train journeys. Where all you have is a jam sandwich to enjoy or your ipod to listen to. You've forgotten your work, so you cant do anything other than exactly what you really want to do and not what you should or need to do. Why? Because you're on a train remember! Or smaller moments. Like today, at the hand dryer. We had washed our hands, and were at the hand dryer, drying our hands, thinking this is wonderful! There's nothing else we can do now but dry our hands, so for approximately two minutes we could daydream to ourselves, guilt free. I think it's what benches were made for...but more of that another time.

It's important to have these totally self-indulgent, guilt-free moments. Whatever or wherever they are, you can be you. Think, say, write, read, eat, do whatever you please. Even if it's only briefly whilst drying your hands. We thought about what to eat for our dinner and to remember to re-tell you all these thoughts (we had tomato and basil soup and toast followed by two fondant fancies by the way).
